put (two – word verbs)

put aside – отложить, откладывать в сторону, копить
They want to put aside political differences and work hard for the common good and the national interest.
put away – убирать, прятать
She put her jewels away.
put back -передвигать стрелки часов назад, возвращаться мысленно в прошлое
If you go to Cyprus you have to put your watch back one hour.
put down – записывать
Please put down my name for a free ticket.

put in for – подавать документы (на работу)
I’m going to put in for that job I saw advertised.
put off – откладывать (что-то по срокам)
Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
– отвлекать кого-то
Don’t talk to me when I’m driving. It puts me off.
– отталкивать кого-то
His bad manners put her off.
put on – надевать что-то
I put on my coat.
– приводить в действие
He put on the brakes.
– набирать вес, полнеть
I’ve put on some weight.
put out – тушить, гасить
They put out the fire.
– распростанять информацию
They put out a weekly newsletter.
put through – соединять, связывать (по телефону)
Hold on, please. I’m just putting you through to Accounts.
put up – поднимать, воздвигать, подниматься в цене
They put up three new houses on our street.
She looks more grownup when she puts up her hair in a bun.
– обеспечивать кого-то жильем, пустить переночевать
If ever you’re in Moscow, we can put you up for the night.
put up with –  быть толерантным по отношению к кому-то, терпеть кого-то
He’s always so rude. I don’t know how people put up with him.
